If money has ever felt confusing, stressful, or isolating, this space is for you. Zaka-Tsala asks different questions to bring understanding of money and finances closer to home. We explore conversations about money in ways that are honest, grounded, and relevant to everyday life in Botswana. We do not always have the answers. We believe many of them already live with you. Our role is to help you surface those answers by developing curiosity about how you manage money, how you track your financial habits, and how you grow wealth in ways that feel safe, sustainable, and dignified. Zaka-Tsala exists to confront how we think about and view finance, in order to transform our relationship with money.
Money touches every part of our lives. It shapes how we eat, where we live, how we care for family, and which choices feel possible. Yet, for something so central, financial literacy remains out of reach for many. Across Sub-Saharan Africa, fewer than one third of people are considered financially literate. In Botswana, financial systems and tools often overlook informal sector workers, allowanced students, younger people, the unbanked, and those whose incomes are frequently interrupted or redirected. Zaka-Tsala exists to respond to this gap. We are grounded in inclusivity, substantive equality, and the belief that financial clarity and financial freedom should be accessible to the everyday Motswana, not only those with stable incomes or formal employment. Imagine being in control of your money.
Not perfectly.
Not someday.
Consciously.
Across many African knowledge systems, clarity has always come before growth. Land is assessed before planting. Resources are accounted for before expansion. Nothing meaningful is built blindly, and economic life has never been separate from social life. In the same way, financial growth without clarity often creates pressure rather than freedom. When we do not understand how money moves in our lives, growth feels fragile and unsustainable. At Zaka-Tsala, clarity is not a final destination. It is a foundation.
Our approach is shaped by ideas that value sustainability, dignity, and collective well-being. We believe that:
Clarity is the foundation for financial growth
Understanding must come before optimisation
Money journeys are rarely linear
Long-term thinking matters more than immediate urgency, especially when context is considered
Good financial systems support discipline without relying on shame
Accessible language creates inclusion and confidence
Financial freedom is not built through pressure. It is built through sense-making.
Zaka-Tsala may be for you if:
You earn money, but still feel unsettled or uncertain about it
Your financial decisions include family, dependants, or shared responsibilities
Your income is inconsistent, interrupted, or redirected
You have tried financial systems that did not fit your life
You want to grow financially without erasing your context
You are ready to understand before optimising
This space is especially anyone who feels existing financial tools were not designed with their reality in mind. It’s for the breadwinner, for the person constantly paying black tax, for taxi and e-hail drivers, informal sector workers, allowanced students, young people navigating early financial independence, and anyone who has ever felt confused, overwhelmed by, or otherwise stressed by money.
Money is not just something we earn. It is something we learn, inherit, negotiate, and carry. It lives inside families, histories, responsibilities, expectations, and obligation. What may look irrational from the outside often makes sense once the full story is understood. At Zaka-Tsala, we believe that dignity, context, and clarity must sit at the centre of any meaningful financial conversation. You are not bad with money. You were simply not taught what many of us needed to know.
Zaka-Tsala designs tools that help you observe, track, and understand your finances in ways that feel humane and practical. Our tools support:
Gentle tracking of money
Noticing patterns over time
Reflection before action
Planning that fits real life
They are designed to support understanding first, because growth without clarity creates pressure, not freedom.
The Zaka-Tsala mobile app supports your journey toward financial clarity by helping you observe your money without punishment or pressure. It helps you:
Track money gently
Build awareness over time
Reflect on financial decisions
Strengthen confidence and capacity
The app does not promise overnight transformation. It supports consistent understanding, because that is where freedom begins.
